This photo is my favorite, because I am in action! My "Mom likes
the one below better. She would!
I lost Mooch on January 4, 2001 to the same horrible insidious disease as Brandy...Tracheal Collapse. Somehow it makes me feel good in doing this page as though he is still around. He is in my heart, so full of life and so exuberant about it! I plan to do a page which incorporates the research I did and what I found out about this horrible disease. Number one, and most important: Please support soft tissue research funding or make donations to your favorite veterinary college or university. If you do not know of any, I can highly recommend Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine, Manhattan, Kansas, and The University of Mississippi Veterinary School of Medicine. Number two, if you own a Yorkie, insist that your vet do a trachea x-ray before the age of two. This will work as a 'baseline' for follow up x-rays. Any current methods of treating this disease, including surgery, whether using stents or the conventional method of using rings cut from hypodermic needle cases for replacing the collapsed trachea, are most effective if done sooner, rather than later. Please do not hesitate to e-mail me and I will be glad to share with you what I have learned, as well as give you some referrals that may help.
